‘nothing is so urgent that we can’t make time to listen’
(Youth Justice Officer, Oldham)
improving practice
Our research has real-world impact on the ways youth professionals engage with the communities they work with. Through training events we have shared insight from our project so far and amplified the voices of the young people who have contributed to Credible Witnesses.
At our 2024 CPD sessions we had members of our Youth Group take part in forum theatre style exercises and our panel discussion, ensuring their perspectives were at the centre. These events brought together social workers, youth workers, youth justice professionals, health workers academics and other professionals passionate about young people’s outcomes to explore the topic of testimonial injustice.
We are currently developing more training for youth professionals and are keen to connect with team managers, universities and other service providers who would be interested in having us visit their setting.
This is what previous attendees said after our training:
’This project gives young people a voice’
’I will now think more carefully about how I come across as a nurse working with children and young people’
’What an amazing tool for raising awareness’
’I’m going to embed these ideas and terminology into training’
’I now want to involve more storytelling in my work with young people’
’We’re going have conversations about how to best improve the way we include young people’s voices in our work’
’I’m going to share the concept of testimonial injustice with communities I work with in criminal justice settings’
